What is it that you require abundantly in your profession?
Patience!
You claim to be traditional but wasn’t it you who made the first move towards Shahid Kapur?
Yes, but there’s nothing wrong in it. I’m individualistic in my thinking. So, if I like a person, male or a female, I’d always go out of my way and stretch my hand. I’m a very friendly girl. Normally, it’s me who is making the first move because people are a little apprehensive about me.
How long are you going to wait to for a film like ‘Erin Brokovich’ (Oscar winning) to come your way?
These kinds of films are not made in our industry. But, I wasn’t doing too many films even earlier. ‘Omkara’ just came along. I never imagined that it would catapult me into a position where people would recognise me not only as a star but also as a performer. But, I’m going to continue doing glamorous roles. I can’t give them up completely.
Now that Karisma is planning a comeback, would you want to work with her?
Of course! It would be great to be seen together. It’s all about the right role and script. There have been talks with production houses. But we’ve both decided that until we’re not sure about our roles, it won’t happen.
How different are you two from each other?
Professionally, we are similar in a way that we won’t do just any role. It’s about giving your fans something new all the time. Like, she did ‘Hero No1’, then ‘Fiza’ and ‘Zubeidaa.’ I did ‘Omkara’ and ‘Don.’
As a person I’m hypersensitive, while Karisma is very strong-minded and determined. I’m very emotional. I’m learning a lot from her. She can take any kind of pain while I’m reluctant to go through those kinds of experiences.
Can you elaborate?
If I have a headache, I would first take a tablet and then go ahead with the shot. But Karisma would go ahead and do the scene first.
Which is that role essayed by Karisma that you would have loved to play?
‘Zubeidaa’! I think it was wonderful! She looked great and performed excellently!
